As the pages of a book are turned, a child's world is broadened. Literature is valuable for many reasons: it sparks children's creativity and imagination; introduces them to new people, places, and ideas; builds their vocabulary and strengthens their use of language; and clarifies difficult situations and troublesome feelings. In short, books help children reach out to the world beyond home and community and perceive an ever-expanding array of possibilities.
Books also foster the attachment between parent and child. Few childhood delights rival snuggling up to mom or dad for a gentle, engaging bedtime story.
Orientations toward books and reading develop early in life. Pleasant, happy experiences with books and stories during the formative years are vital for a continuing love and curiosity into adulthood. The secret to instilling a love of literature in your child is letting your child observe you reading for pleasure and information. If you display interest and enthusiasm, then your child will likely share your affection for the printed word.
Throughout the years of childhood, expose your child to quality books of all kinds: picture, story, rhythm and rhyming, adventure and mystery, fantasy, interpersonal relationships, travel, reference, riddles and puzzles, arts and science. Reading will become a treasured part of your child's life.

Bird Lovers
Healthy birds are active for most of every day as they go about normal activities. When we choose a bird as a companion, we need to supply plenty of opportunities for stimulating physical and emotional activity that suits the unique needs of the individual bird. Because we control their environment, it's up to us to provide the opportunity for action.
Birds should not remain confined in a cage all day, every day. This results in a condition we refer to as cageosis. Cage-bound birds exhibit neurotic impulses such as feather pulling, screaming, and endless bouncing or banging their bodies on the sides of the cage. Many people mistake this behavior as happy dancing. You can compare the bird's frustration and resulting mental illness to that of a human who has been kept in solitary confinement with nothing to do for endless periods of time.
An exception to this would be small birds such as finches that are kept in flocks in large cages or aviaries. These birds carry on their daily activities much as they would in the wild. To keep them happy and healthy give them enough room to fly and interact, plenty of perching spots away from the flight paths, nutritious food and nests or nesting materials.
With other birds, though, you must provide regular activity time outside the cage as well a rotation of appropriate toys inside the cage. The best way to make sure you give your bird adequate activity time is to create a formal schedule. Every bird should be allowed out of its cage at least twice daily. If your day is busy, let your bird out of its cage for a short time in the morning and then plan the more extensive out-of-cage interaction time in the evening, centered around sharing dinner and evening pastimes.

Free internet marketing
How To Find Free Internet Marketing
by: Mark Walters
New ecommerce businesses are caught up in SEO and web optimization. They view Google as the holy grail of making profits via the internet. Their internet marketing budget is sank into buying traffic, optimizing pages, and establishing major PayPerClick programs with the major search engines. All the work, and expense, involved in following the pack, is virtually unnecessary in today’s ecommerce world. Marketing the Website Submitting to search engines is only the first step toward a strong Internet Marketing campaign – it should never be the full focus. There are several ways to market a website. - search engine optimization - Pay Per Click - Search Engine Submission - Generating Inbound Links and increasing Page Rank - Building Content - Adding Social Networking Tools such as forums Each one of these tools have a benefit. Recently a blog community went from PR0 – PR4, and receiving 300 000 hits a month with a budget of $50 a month. The blog community invested $20 a month in a PayPerClick program to ‘boost’ their exposure on Google and be accepted and ‘ranked’ faster. www.communati.com submitted the website to more than 3000 search engines, free, using www.webceo.com. Despite the ‘old’ search engine hype, this should only be done once or twice a year. They embarked on an article writing, forum promoting, and encouraging members to ‘put the word out.’ The inbound link campaign increased their Page Rank to PR4 within 5 months, an incredible feat. Next, communati added social networking features like points and a chat. The important ‘trick’ to remember is that search engines give more rank to pages inside the website, not the index or home page. Building links to the home page is becoming a waste of time. Five articles with specific topics that contain high keywords, links to the rest of the ecommerce website, and ‘hooks’, will generate more PR than links to a buy now page, the index page, or a page with heavy images and graphics. Marketing the Blog All websites should include a blog. Not because a blog is necessary, or because people read them. The number one reason for putting up a blog is to increase keyword density, but keep in below the 5% ‘red flag’ level. It also generates dozens of extra content pages, increases the number of ‘in house’ links which are also important to increasing page rank. A blog can also be submitted to blog directories. The best way to submit is using a service. When an Internet Marketing manager submits a blog to a directory, they must include a backward link. When they use a service they can submit to about 1000 directories without back links. The price ranges from $200 - $500. http://www.lazyurl.com/, http://www.submitcomfort.com/ One advantage of a blog is that it is submitted to the blog directories every time someone writes a new post. Web sites that are submitted more than 4 or 5 times a year may find themselves banned. However, a blog can ping the search engine several times a day without risk of being banned. In turn, the blog search engines ‘ping’ the big search engines who give the ‘new’ content high page rank for the first few hours. Marketing The Podcast No podcast on your ecommerce website? Why? Submitting it to the podcast directories is another way to generate free exposure. The podcast only needs a few streaming or downloaded files to qualify. Podcasts can also be listed on dozens and dozens of free services, each building links to the main site, as well as increasing the exposure to the website. AmigoFish.com, Digg Podcasts , Podcast Pickle , www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts or http://podcasts.yahoo.com. The most popular podcatcher software is iTunes, which is available as a free download from www.apple.com/itunes/download. Promote Video Does your product Appeal to younger people? Then load video at facebook, youtube, etc and then submit those videos. Don’t make a dry workshop or seminar style tutorial, but make it interesting. It is amazing how many younger people click in keywords, and then use the ‘search video only’ link to view relevant videos instead of reading articles. The list continues. Submit your newsletter, forums, and chat directories. A single article can be submitted to more than 50 000 article submission ‘free content’ sites. No cost involved, except time, and the exposure will create a ripple effect sending your message farther across the web than a $100 000 SEO, traffic buying, and search engine submission campaign.

Raw food - 2
Ways You Didn't Know You Were Saving Money Eating Raw Food
Raw fooders tend to talk about the high cost of organic produce, superfoods, raw nuts, and the slew of other raw goodies out there.Where is the savings? Not only do we as raw fooders tend to forget the ailments we used to have after "going raw", but we also tend to not think about the myriad of ways we are saving money in other aspects of life. Some not even directly related to raw food!20 Ways You Didn't Know You Were Saving Money Eating Raw Food
Toilet Paper - We're not going to explain this one. Let's just say we use way less than we used to.
Tissues - Besides detox symptoms, we rarely use tissue paper any more. No more blowing your nose when nothing is in there.
Food Costs - Ok, this has been a pretty big debate among raw fooders. It depends on what you are eating, but personally, we eat a lot less (in volume) than we used to. Besides the occasional superfood purchase, we can safely say that we spend probably 1/4 of what we used to on food, maybe even half. Sure, we ate more raw food in the beginning, but after years of eating raw, we continue to notice that we need less and less food! We didn't believe that it was possible when we first heard about raw food...but for us, it has been true, and it has been a true savings!
Trash Bags - If you compost (even just during the summer), you are going to save a lot of money here. Not like trash bags cost very much, but consider it part of what you are saving. Just think of all that stuff that doesn't go into the trash bags anymore. Saving some money and saving the environment? Cool.
Water - This isn't about drinking water, because the cost of drinking water usually goes up as you seek higher and higher qualities of clean water. But how much less do you shower? How much less do you flush your toilet? What about not having to scrub pots and pans in large amounts of water? We both clean off in the shower extremely fast, shampoo goes through our hair like butter. Washing the Vita-Mix uses a tiny amount of water. Once again this is saving you money and being nice to the Earth. Nice!
Moisturizer & Skin Creams - Besides the fact that most of these creams and lotions contain toxic chemicals, we both find that we rarely need to moisturize, and when we do, coconut oil, avocados, or some really good chemical-free cream or MSM cream will do the trick nicely.
Deodorant - According to Heidi, I "no longer smell." Hmmmm, never could smell myself, now that I think about it. But seriously, I use crystal deodorant, and not only does it cost so much less, I find that on some days, I don't even need it.
Cotton Swabs - We used to use at least two a day to clean our ears (we won't get into details), but now we use maybe two a week. Our ears are so clean now, that it's simply a waste. We still keep some in the house, but we hardly use them anymore.
Green Savings - Just being in the raw "movement", you begin to learn a lot about eco-living (if you didn't already know). Just the amount of money we save using energy efficient bulbs alone is astounding.
Lip Balm - For those of you that don't live in the freezing tundra of Minnesota you might not be able to relate, but for those of us who do, our skin never looks forward to below freezing temperatures. As the years have gone by, we noticed that our lips almost never get dry anymore. Our skin still doesn't like the cold, but it doesn't crack or break at all. Heidi still loves her Burt's Bees lip balm, but she no longer feels the need to put it on 10 times a day!
Makeup - OK Ladies....it's Heidi here! Once you go raw, you'll notice that you are using less makeup, if any at all! Of course, this cost savings is for women (or married couples), but all you women out there know that makeup can be expensive if you use it everyday. Once you go raw, you no longer need for concealer for dark circles under eyes, or covering up acne that doesn't exist now that you have clear skin!
Shampoo - After being fully raw, you usually need less shampoo than you used to have to put in your hair every day. Depending on the quality of your water, you probably needed to use shampoo twice to really clean your hair. Now that you are raw, you might already be using a natural shampoo like Dr. Bronner's shampoo. If you use Dr. Bronner's to wash your hair, you'll notice that you use a small amount, and it is cheaper than regular shampoo. Buy a gallon bottle of the good stuff and you'll save a lot in a year!
Conditioner - We both have long hair, so we both use conditioner. Yet once again, we both have noticed that we use a slightly smaller amount in our hair than before we went raw. We have our choices of conditioners, but we buy our hair conditioners online, and with some sites that offer free shipping we have noticed cost savings!
Coffee - For a former coffee addict (Justin), this was enough to probably buy myself a nice used car every year. Seriously, though, coffee used to be a separate expense on my budget sheet. I can only imagine how much money I've saved from not drinking it (or even just cutting it down significantly).
Soda, Cola, Carbonated Beverages - No matter how often you drank a soda here and there, it really would make a difference in cost savings to not drink it any more. And if you used to be one of those "64 oz. of Mountain Dew a day" kind of soda drinker...that is a huge cost savings! (And by the way...we live in Minnesota, so we call it "Pop"!)
Clothing Costs - After losing all of my weight on raw food (Justin), my weight has stabilized and I no longer need to buy larger or smaller sizes. This is especially important for women, as they tend to gain and lose weight (throughout the year) much easier than men. Think about it!
Medical Savings - And of course, doctor and medical bills. The stories we have heard (and our own experiences) are perhaps the greatest draw people find to the raw food diet. Heidi has cured herself of "incurable" migraines, arthritis, psoriasis, fatigue, back pain, and many more ailments. We will leave it up to you to ponder the cost savings in this very popular category. (Note: Our doctors and physicians are absolutely wonderful people who have your health and well-being in mind. Many of them just don't know any better.)
Restaurants - Unless you live by ten raw food restaurants, you probably rarely (if ever) go out to restaurants to eat anymore. This alone may be your biggest money saver of all.
Tips at Restaurants - Not only restaurant prices, but also tipping, which can add up to huge costs throughout an entire year.
Entertainment Costs - Don't get my wrong here, we are both all about entertainment, but we have found that we don't need the escape of constant entertainment that we used to. So many simple things have become incredibly pleasurable that we are constantly entertained by life itself! There you have it! 20 totally real cost savings once you go raw! Take a look at this list and count how many of these things you used to spend money on that you aren't spending money on any more. It will probably astound you.For all those number crunching types...you might even want to take it a step further and look at previous budgets in past years and compare them to what you are spending now. You might even want to look at old bank statements and see what you used to spend your money on with your debit card. I know that we had a lot of coffee purchases in the past...and now that isn't a part of our reality. What are your cost savings? What are you saving the most money on?If you haven't, you should take a look, the results will astonish you.Just one more reason to be thankful for raw food.- JS & Heidi
